Instead of his wife driving to and from the office,

Kevin walked to the pick up spot, and she drove to and from the pick up spot:

work -----> pickup spot <------> home


Now, they saved 4 minutes. That means that two minutes was saved from not having to drive from the pickup spot to his work (the other two minutes was saved from not having to drive from his work back to the pick up spot).

So, that means that Kevin's wife picked him up at 5:28 pm.

Since he left work at 4:58 pm, he walked for 30 minutes.
