Apple Picking - The Answer

(Solution Hidden)

Here is the answer to the Apple Picking puzzle.

The three people picked apples at four trees. Let us call the amounts they picked at each tree as T1, T2, T3, and T4.

1. Since the group picked a total of 65 apples, we have:

T1 + T2 + T3 + T4 = 65

2. They picked 5 apples at tree 4, so T4 = 5.

Thus, T1 + T2 +t3 = 60

3. After they picked apples at tree 3, they had 5 times as many apples as when they first reached the tree. So, T1 + T2 + T3 = 5 * (T1 + T2)

Thus, 5*T1 + 5*T2 = 60

4. They picked 3 times as many apples at tree 2 then they did at the first tree.

Thus, 5*T1 + 15*T1 = 60

5. We now have 20*T1 = 60, and so T1 = 3

The group of 3 picked 3 apples at tree 1. Since they each picked the same amount at tree1, this means that the answer is that each person picked 1.
