Power of the Google Search Box

The Google home page search box is a great blend of minimalism and power. It provides a simple command-line interface to a powerful, behind the scenes network.

The "search" box allows you to do more than just search for web pages:

1. It is a full calculator - just enter a math equation like (34+23)*7 to get the result.

2. Tracks packages - simply enter a USPS, UPS, or Fed Ex tracking number.

3. Find a theater and show times - enter the movie name and zip code, i.e. "iron man 2 10022".

4. Flight information - simply enter the airline and flight number.

5. Sports results - just type in the name of a team.

6. Government websites - search them by going to google.com/unclesam

7. Currency conversions - enter a phrase like "dollars in rupees" or "USD in INR" or "100 dollars in pounds".

8. Search within a website - i.e. "Iraq cnn.com" searches CNN for Iraq.

9. Time zones - i.e. "time Moscow"

10. Conversions - examples include "10 teaspoons in ounces", "meters in feet", "cups in gallons".
